Rules of communication and etiquette
Rule #1: Conversation
Never start a conversation with a visitor performing an exercise. Firstly, it is very distracting, and secondly, most likely he is focused on training and will not hear. Wait for the approach to complete and ask your question.
Rule #2: Allow people to join you
To refuse means to show disrespect. Of course, if it doesn't interfere with your training. For example, when your training program involves short rest breaks.
Rule #3: Don't block your view
Walking past the person doing the exercise, or even just standing in front of him, will interfere with his concentration. The visitor can also observe the exercise being performed in the mirror, monitoring his technique.
Rule #4: Ask permission
If you need to use equipment that someone else is already using, you should ask permission to share. You can’t just sit on a machine or bench that another visitor has just gotten up from. It is necessary to find out whether his exercise is completed. If the weight you need is very different from that used by another visitor, then you should not ask to share the machine. Wait until he completes his workout or move to other equipment.
Rule #5: Lively Conversations
You should not pester visitors with conversations. Most of them go to the gym for training, and not for an intimate conversation. Save the conversation until after the lesson.
Rule #6: Don't use too much equipment
Don't use too many machines or benches at once. It's another matter when there is no one in the hall. In this case, you can consider yourself the master, for a while, of course.
Rule #7: Help
You should not run up to everyone who you think needs help. Heavy repetitions are the most effective, and this will only ruin your set. But if someone asks for help, then you should respond to the request.
- Don't abuse help.
You should not ask for help when you are not ready to cope with weight from the beginning. In this case, you should reconsider your working weight. - Comfort zone.
Do not place the bench you borrow near other visitors. Some exercises require a lot of free space. - Reset the weight.
When you have finished performing the exercise on the machine, return the stopper to the position that was used by the previous visitor. - Be tactful.
You can't laugh at people who can't compare with you in working scales. There will always be those visitors who will surpass your achievement. - Help.
When someone asks you for help, don’t refuse. If you see that you will not be able to provide assistance due to heavy weight or for another reason, you must warn about this. - Scream.
Try not to shout while doing the exercise. Of course, sometimes this is necessary, but not always. - Perfumery.
Do not wear perfume before going to the gym. During a serious workout, the smell of sweat cannot be avoided, and in combination with perfume, the smell may not be the most pleasant. Just take a shower before you start your workout.
How to behave in the gym
♦ Disassemble the barbell together
This applies to the case when you take turns working out with someone, for example, after performing a bench press, ask the other person what weight to set and together disassemble the barbell or add missing plates. If you helped him, he will help you, this is mutual respect for each other!
♦ Take a towel
There are times when a person, having completed an exercise, leaves an unpleasant wet trace of sweat when getting up from the bench, do you want to exercise after it? Therefore, if you sweat a lot, always take a towel with you, first put it on the bench, and then lie down on it. After finishing the training, carefully inspect the place where you trained and wipe dry all wet spots.
♦ Don’t be embarrassed to ask people for insurance
It is usually inconvenient to ask for help for beginners, and of course for pompous people who have a high opinion of themselves, but the result in these two cases is mostly the same - it was crushed by a barbell, and instead of a cry for help there was an incomprehensible wheezing, the weight was pressing ;). Therefore, after completing warm-up walks and performing working weights, ask for insurance, you never know what might get pinched during the exercise. Those around you will understand and will be happy to help you, there is nothing to be ashamed of.
♦ When you come into the room, say hello to everyone.
Having arrived and not greeted anyone, the first impression is ignorant, or even worse, in their hearts many will say, well, he went... away. Therefore, when you come to the gym, say hello to everyone, even those you don’t know, but you sometimes see them during training. This is a kind of gesture of greeting colleagues in sports. Unless, of course, you came to train at the Gold Gym, where the area is almost the size of a football floor, you don’t have to say hello to everyone, otherwise the training will end.
What not to do
Don't leave behind iron
Perhaps this is the scourge of all modern halls. People think that since they paid money, they can give a damn about order and respect for their neighbors in the hall. I think that you need to clean up after yourself everywhere. And not just in gyms. And it doesn’t matter what category or sporting title you have. Moreover, you need to remove the shells in their place, and not just throw the discs off the bar onto the floor.
Don't step over the bar
Now this has somehow become forgotten in modern rocking chairs. But in weightlifting halls this tradition is still revered sacredly. And me too. The point here is respect for the projectile. By the way, in the West they haven’t even heard about this. So this tradition is an invention of the Soviet school of weightlifting. Even if you don’t respect the barbell (that’s your business), if you step over someone else’s barbell, that person can get very angry. Personally, I kindly ask you not to do this again.
Do not place your feet on barbells or dumbbells
This also applies to showing respect for the projectile. Well, it’s also not hygienic to trample on equipment that people pick up.
Don't stand behind or walk in front of someone doing the exercise.
This irritates many people and throws them off their mood. This also came from weightlifting. The fact is that most weightlifting exercises are quite dangerous and difficult. And the athlete needs full concentration. Of course, in the gym, most exercises are much simpler, but you still shouldn’t distract a person.
Don't talk to the person while they are doing the exercise
Yes, yes, sometimes there are such pretzels. Personally, I simply ignore the person who tries to talk to me while approaching.
